Phi Theta Kappa is the International Honor Society for two-year colleges. The Society emphasizes the four hallmarks of Fellowship, Leadership, Service and of course Scholarship. To become a regular member, one must complete a minimum of 12 degree-applicable units at Butte College with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5, but provisional membership is also available to Butte College Students who have completed at least one semester with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher. There are numerous benefits to membership; not only does it look good on one's résumé, transcript and diploma, but Phi Theta Kappans are eligible for over $36 million in transfer scholarships to baccalaureate institutions throughout the United States. While members are not required to be active in Butte College's Beta Theta Kappa chapter of Phi Theta Kappa, those who wish to develop their leadership skills, participate in fellowship activities with members throughout the world, engage in scholarly pursuits beyond the classroom and/or involve themselves in campus and community service activities are strongly advised to consider running for chapter office.
