The Lady Roadrunners were back in action in GVC play at home against visiting College of the Redwoods. After a slow start Butte exploded for 7 second half goals to rout Redwoods 9-0. Yaneth Munoz lead the way with 4 goals and 2 assists followed by fellow sophomore Emily Duke who had 2 goals and 1 assist. Freshman midfielder Jesenia Rodriguez added 2 goals and striker Kayla Ernst also had a goal. Cassidy Murphy had 2 assists, Nichole Naulty and Brenna Meier each added an assist as well. Brenna was in goal with 2 saves for her fourth shutout of the year. Butte is back in action Friday as they start a six game road stretch with Lake Tahoe CC at 4:00 PM.
Butte opened Golden Valley Conference play with a 4-1 victory over visiting Shasta College. Scoring opened when Cassidy Murphy scored off of a Kayla Ernst assist three minutes into the match. Marissa Zamora assisted a Yaneth Munoz goal in the 19th minute. Shasta was able to find a goal five minutes later but striker Kayla Ernst put the lead back to 2 goals when she converted a pass from fellow striker Yaneth Munoz. Cassidy scored the final goal in the 80th minute and was assisted by Jesenia Rodriguez. Brenna Meier earned the victory in goal with 7 saves.
Butte concluded its road trip with a 4-1 win over College of the Sequoias. The first half saw Lady Roadrunners’ striker Yaneth Munoz find her first goal of the day when she converted a Mia Moya pass. Butte could not hold the lead however, and 42 minutes in Sequoias equalized. The match went to the half 1-1 but the second half was all Butte. The scoring opened when Cassidy Murphy converted a penalty kick in the 53rd minute. Four minutes later Kayla Ernst scored off of a Yaneth Munoz pass. Munoz earned the final goal when she received a long punt from Brenna Meier. Brenna also had 8 saves in the win. Butte College opens Golden Valley Conference play on Tuesday as they host Shasta College.
On the road with back to back games, Butte opened with a 4-0 win over host West Hills College. Kayla Ernst opened the scoring with a goal five minutes into the match from an assist by Valerie Cagnacci. The second goal came when Cassidy Murphy scored unassisted in the 27th minute. Cassidy then assisted an Emily Duke goal that took the Lady Roadrunners 3-0 into the half. Emily Duke put the game away with a goal off of a Jesenia Rodriguez assist two minutes into the second half. Brenna Meier was in goal, tallying 4 saves, for her third shutout of the year.
The Lady Roadrunners were on the road playing Delta College. The first half saw fast and physical play from Butte as the game went to the half tied 0-0. The deadlock was broke by Delta in the 60th minute. With a 1-0 lead the Lady Mustangs began to press forward, Brenna Meier kept Butte in the match with several spectacular saves. Delta however, was again able to find the back of the net making it 2-0. A late Butte push saw several near misses and the game closed at 2-0, Meier finished the day with 14 saves. Butte is back in action on the 25th of September as they travel down south for a two game stretch with West Hills College and the College of the Sequoias.
The Lady Roadrunners were back on track and in the win column with a 4-0 victory over the visiting Los Medanos Mustangs. Yaneth Munoz opened the scoring with an assist from Jenny Santos in the 10th minute. Cassidy Murphy converted a penalty kick five minutes later, pushing the lead to two goals. Cassidy again found the back of the net off an assist from Yaneth Munoz in the closing minutes of the first half. The second half opened with a Munoz goal three minutes in. Kayla Ernst assisted on the play. Brenna Meier was in goal with 1 save and her second shutout of the year. Butte travels to Delta College on Friday for a 6:30 PM kick off under the lights at the University of the Pacific.
Butte dropped their first game of the 2015 season to American River College. The Lady Beavers scored midway through the first half off of a corner kick. The lone goal of the match would stand as ARC held off a late second half push by the Roadrunners. Brenna Meier was in goal with 7 saves. “We played with a ton of intensity and heart today, although the score does not always show the effort. We were unfortunate in that we were unable to convert any of our chances. However, the coaches are very proud of our team’s effort today and we will most certainly be better for it.”
Butte was back in action on the road at Yuba College where they earned a 3-2 victory. The back and forth physical match up saw the Lady Roadrunners jump out to a 2-0 lead early in the first half with goals by Emily Duke and Cassidy Murphy, assists came from Yaneth Munoz and Jesenia Rodriguez. Yuba struck back in the closing minutes of the half and the match was 2-1 at the break. Yuba then found the equalizer as play resumed in the second half. Yaneth Munoz found the game winner in the 75th minute and Brenna Meier was in goal for the victory with 5 saves. “This was a hard fought physical battle and our side showed its will to win against a determined Yuba squad. We are very proud of how our team earned the road victory.”, said coach Salindong.
The Lady Roadrunners opened their 2015 season at home in a big way by beating visiting Merritt College in an 11-0 rout. Two hat tricks were recorded on the day as Sophomore striker Yaneth Munoz had 3 goals and 2 assists. Jesenia Rodriquez also had 3 goals and an assist. Kayla Ernst scored twice and had 3 assists, while Cassidy Murphy had 2 goals and an assist. Emily Duke contributed a goal and 2 assists and midfield partner Mia Moya had an assist. Brenna Meier was in goal for the shut out with 2 saves. Butte travels to Yuba College on Wednesday for a 2:00 PM match.
