Head Basketball Coach
Coach Critchfield enters his 18th season at the helm of the Roadrunners with hopes for another banner year coming off of last season’s 18-9 overall record, a Golden Valley Conference Championship (9-1), and another appearance in the California State Community College Championships where they lost a hard fought contest at Consumnes River College. Optimism is reigns high that this year’s team will return the Runners back to the top of the conference for a “three-peat” and into the state tourney again. The reason for such optimism stems from a strong returning core of players and an outstanding recruiting class who Coach Critchfield believes has the talent, depth, and potential to contribute.

As a high school head coach he served at Salesian, San Ramon, Campolindo, and Vintage High Schools. Overall, his head coaching record at the high school and community college levels is 373-285.

As a senior at Cal he was named to the Helms Athletic Foundation, Converse All-America Teams and was an Honorable Mention UPI All-America Team selection. Following Cal he played for the American Basketball Association Champion Oakland Oaks in 1969 before beginning his coaching career. Assistant Basketball Coach
Coach Martin enters his 3rd season as an assistant coach with the Roadrunners and has been very instrumental to their success during his first two seasons that saw the Runners earn two straight conference titles, 39 wins, and consecutive playoff state championship appearances! His coaching responsibilities include but are not limited to practice and game preparations, game management and coaching, recruiting, promotions, academics, opponent scouting, and team travel.
Born and raised in Chico by his parents, Greg and Sue Martin, Coach Martin enjoyed a very exceptional playing career starring at Chico High School as a superb point guard under the tutelage of Chico Community Hall of Fame inductee, Sam Simmons. He continued playing at Butte College for current coach Russ Critchfield earning All-Golden Valley Conference his sophomore season along with being named team captain and MVP. Following Butte College Coach Martin went onto play ball at George Fox University in Oregon where he played for Coach Mark Sundquist earning all-league and being named team MVP his senior season. He is most proud of his 37 point performance there which still ranks as the third highest single game scoring mark at George Fox University.
Coach Martin’s coaching experience is vast and exceptional early in his career as he has worked at several different levels. His knowledge, coaching-teaching ability, leadership and communicative skills have helped him forge a very solid coaching foundation and pathway towards becoming a head coach someday. During his coaching journey he has served as a NCAA Division 1 assistant coach for three years under former National Coach of the Year Larry Eustachy while at Southern Mississippi University and Colorado State University. Among his duties on staff was player development, student academics, opponent film breakdown, scouting reports, and team/player evaluations. His time under Coach Eustachy (a mentor and large influence on his coaching philosophies) earned two NCAA Tournament berths along with school records for most wins in a season.
While at Butte College Coach Martin has done a tremendous job with player recruiting and development. Coach Critchfield is very pleased to have Coach Martin continue on staff again this season as he brings a wealth of talent and passion to the program and he will be counted upon to help lead the Roadrunners to another outstanding season!
