The Butte College Foundation welcomes Jason Larrabee as one of its newest board members.

A Butte College alumnus, Larrabee received an A.A. degree in liberal arts in 1993 and transferred to California State University, Chico where he received a bachelor’s degree in geography in 1997.

“We’re pleased to have Jason Larrabee on our Foundation board of directors,” said Diana Van Der Ploeg, Butte College president. “Not only is he a successful alumnus, but his extensive agricultural background provides a valuable perspective.”

His family runs Larrabee Farms in Butte City which includes rice and orchards, so agriculture is important to him, he said.

Larrabee recently moved back to this area after serving on the staff of Congressman John Doolittle in Washington, D.C. for several years. He said joining the Foundation board is a way to give back to the community, and as a Butte College grad he felt it would be a good thing to do.

“Scholarships are an important part of the Foundation, and I would like to find more resources for them, so more students can have the opportunity to attend Butte College,” said Larrabee.

He played football for Butte College for two years starting in 1994 and has fond memories of the athletic department.

“Playing athletics was a great experience,’’ Larrabee said. “The teachers were helpful and provided direction and encouragement.’’

Larrabee credits Butte College with providing him with a college education that allowed him to move forward to a four-year university.

As a member of the agricultural industry, Larrabee also wants to help students get a better understanding of agriculture and its benefits. “There are many international markets,’’ he said, and he would like to see the college expand the opportunities for students to learn about global agriculture.
