Direct and Matching Grants from the Butte College Foundation not only benefit the College and its students, but the community as a whole. Recently, grants have supported such endeavors as the Foreign Studies programs, the Leadership Development program, library collection development, purchasing of classroom and laboratory equipment, and the resurfacing of our athletic track.

Phi Theta Kappa

“This past year Butte College’s Beta Theta Kappa chapter was named as one of the world’s top 30 Distinguished Chapters within Phi Theta Kappa—the international honor society for two-year colleges. Our members collectively contribute over 2,500 hours of service each year to the campus and our communities.  But we could not have achieved this level of activity without the financial assistance of the Butte College Foundation.  Each year we must raise $20,000 or more to support our projects and leadership training, and each year we have to start from scratch, with no regular institutional funding.  We rely on the Butte College Foundation for partial funding and we are tremendously grateful for their continuing support and encouragement.”

Chemistry Day
chemistry day

With the help of a grant by the Foundation, about 60 local high school students come to the Butte College campus for one day in April to compete in various areas of chemistry. This event channels students’ love of competition into a rewarding academic endeavor. Volunteers from Butte College chemistry classes help organize Chemistry Day, making this an event where students and faculty work together to make a difference in our local schools.

Emergency Book Loan Fund

Butte College students come from all economic backgrounds, and many sometimes find themselves in financial stress. The College maintains a small but desperately needed emergency loan fund for these students. This fund makes loans to those needing assistance with textbook costs and other college-related expenses. While the fund has been in existence for decades, it has never been sufficient to make loans to every student in need. Your donation to this fund could help many students stay in school.

Athletics

The Foundation contributes to the Butte College Athletics program, and we’re very proud of the many achievements made by our Roadrunner
athletes. The men’s and women’s cross country teams each took home state championships. Oscar Uribe (photo at left) had the fastest 5,000-meter time in Northern California. The runners and other students have benefited from our newly resurfaced athletic track, which was partially funded by a Foundation grant. This past year also saw alumnus Aaron Rogers make his NFL debut after being drafted in the first round by the Green Bay Packers.
