Butte College is the hidden gem of Butte and Glenn counties. Well, not so hidden anymore, but a gem none the less. The College is a gem not just because of its campus’ beauty and style, but mostly because of the value and wealth that it brings to our communities. 

Consider this… even if you are not one of the quarter of a million students that attended Butte College over the last 40 years, it is almost certain that you know a relative, friend, associate or employee who has directly benefited from what the College has to offer. Our communities rely on graduates from Butte College’s outstanding vocational training programs in such areas as law enforcement, fire protection, nursing care and many others. Butte College also offers an excellent low cost transfer program to four-year institutions, as well as continuing education and lifelong learning opportunities. Take into account its business assistance and economic development programs, plus its sports and entertainment events, and it’s easy to see how we all benefit as a result of Butte College.

And now, this gem needs your help. State funding for community colleges is significantly lower than that for 4 year colleges and even K-12 education. While Butte College is already one of the best educational values in California, we could do so much more.

By definition, a community exists for the mutual benefit of all. An investment in your community is an investment in the quality of life, not only for the many individuals who directly participate in Butte College’s education programs, but also for all of us who reside in Butte and Glenn counties.

This is why I am active in the Butte College Foundation. The Foundation not only helps students achieve their higher education goals through annual scholarships, but we also help fund programs, events, and other vital needs such as equipment and supplies that simply cannot be afforded with the current level of state funding.
